FC Barcelona Regal and Brose Baskets record first round wins: Euroleague October 20 review – Part 1
We are only five days into the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and have already witnessed few nail biters. The intensity is only going to escalate as the tournament proceeds further. Six games took place on Thursday, October 20th,
2011. Here is a brief analysis of these games:
FC Barcelona Regal 86- Union Olimpija 64

FC Barcelona started their Euroleague journey in a convincing manner by overcoming Union Olimpija 86-64.
Marcelinho Huertas led the team with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Pete Mickeal contributed with 15 points and 3 rebounds while Fran Vazquez also managed to chip in with 10 points.
From Union’s side, Danny Green, the Boston Celtics youngster, who was playing his first ever Euroleague match scored 17 points but could not push his team to victory. Ratko Varda was also impressive and chipped in with 16 points
along with 4 assists.
Olimpija started solidly and were pretty much in the game during the first half. However, as the match progressed, their defense and offense both disintegrated and taking advantage of this, Barcelona kept on extending their lead.
Barcelona’s offense intensified in the last quarter. They were oozing with confidence and finding the baskets almost at will.
Brose Baskets 96- KK Zagreb 65
Thursday night was one, which KK Zagreb would want to forget as quickly as possible. Going into the game against Brose Baskets, the Croatian side received a lesson in basketball with a 96-65 margin.
For Brose, it was a complete team effort as most of the players chipped in with points. Anthony Tucker was the star of the show and led the winning team with 20 points and 5 rebounds while Casey Jacobson and Marcus Slaughter each
added 16 points.
Krunoslav Simon was the highest scorer for Zagreb ending with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
Brose dominated right from the start and did not give a single chance to Zagreb throughout the game. With every passing quarter, the lead just kept on increasing and when its  reached 30 points by the end of third quarter, Zagreb
just gave up and forth quarter was a mere formality.
Brose Baskets coach was psyched with everyone’s performance in the team specifically praising the brilliant defense his team displayed
"Of course we are happy to have been able to start at home and even happier to have won the first game there. We did a good job defensively. We limited (Krunoslav) Simon and their big guys and were able to get transition points.
We’re really happy and looking forward to the game next week”
