FC Barcelona Regal and CSKA Moscow win: Euroleague Basketball November 10th review - Part 2
FC Barcelona Vs Montepaschi Siena
Spanish lions FC Barcelona Regal are amongst the teams that were seen as the contenders for title even before the league started.
Barcelona are unbeaten in the tournament so far and last night, they collected their 4th consecutive win by humiliating Montepaschi Siena 92-75 to stay on the top of group D.
Chuck Edison was the star for Barcelona and finished with game high 22 points including 5 for 8 from the paint and 3 for 3 from three-point range. Erazem Lorbek was also impressive and added 17 points while Boniface Ndong who was
in the court for only 22 minutes also put up a good show and scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds.
Bo McCalebb led the losing team with 20 points on 6 for 7 from paint while Ksistof Lavrinovic narrowly missing a double-double scored 13 points and forced 8 rebounds.
Barcelona dominated the game right from the start. An early 3 pointer by Chuck followed by an 11 point run by Barcelona midway through the first quarter pushed Siena far away from victory. They never managed to recover from that
and were behind Barcelona throughout the game.
By the end of first half, Barcelona were 12 points ahead at 40-28. Siena in order to give themselves a chance, needed to score at quick pace in the second half. They however failed to do that. On other side Barcelona kept on accumulating
points and dictated the terms until the end. The fate of game had already been decided midway through the last quarter when Barcelona’s lead increased to 15 points and last 5 minutes of game were just a mere formality.
CSKA Moscow Vs Panathinaikos
CSKA came from behind and not only took the game to overtime but stunned the reigning champs Panathinaikos by winning the game 78-76 courtesy of Ramunas Kaukenas three-pointer in the 5th minute of extra time.
Ramunas who netted the most crucial shot in the game also ended as the game’s highest scorer accumulating 14 points on 4 for 5 from the paint. Nenad Kristic was also brilliant and completed a double-double by scoring 13 and forcing
11 rebounds. Andrei Kirilenko played his role to perfection and pulled 10 rebounds along with 9 points.
Kostas Kaimakoglou scored 13 points from the losing side on 4 for 4 from the free throw line while Nick Calathes added his 11 along with 6 rebounds.
Panathinaikos managed to stay ahead of CSKA throughout the first half. At the interval, they were in the driving seat leading by 9 points, 41-32.
Moscow made a comeback in third quarter and with Kirilenko’s three, they managed to reduce the deficit to 1 point 53-52 in the 29th minute; however Panathinaikos again chipped in with points and increased the lead going
into the final frame.
With three minutes to go, it looked like Panathinaikos will win easily as they were leading by 7 points 67-60 but a quick spurt got CSKA back in the game and not only they levelled it in the 40 minutes, but went on to winning the
game in the end.
