FC Barcelona Regal and Unics Win: Euroleague Basketball Roundup November 03, 2011 – Part 1
Seven games took place in the 2011-12 Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season on November 03, 2011. Here is a brief review of the games:
FC Barcelona Regal 93 - Unics 65
In Kazan, FC Barcelona Regal remained unbeaten in difficult Group D with a 93-65 victory over Unics. It was third consecutive victory for Barcelona and second straight loss for Unics, which dropped to 1-2 in the group.
Erazem Lorbek topped all the scorers with 24 points on 9 for 11 shooting from two-point range and 2 for 2 from three-point range and grabbed five rebounds. Juan Carlos Navarro added 19 points and four rebounds while Pete Mickeal
came off the bench with 16 points and six rebounds in the victory. Marcelinho Huertas recorded 10 points and pulled down out game-best eight assists for FC Barcelona.
Terrell Lyday paced Unics with 14 points on 5 for 9 shooting from two-point range. Vladimir Veremeenko posted 11 points while Kelly McCarty had 10 points, four rebounds and three steals in second straight loss for Unics.
Regal got off to a good start once again and held a ten-point lead, 19-9, with two minutes to go in the first quarter. Unics tallied the next five points to make it a five-point contest before Barcelona closed the opening period
on a four unanswered points, taking a 23-14 lead into the second.
Unics made a great comeback in the second quarter and trimmed their deficit to two, 26-24. However, Barcelona reeled off an 18-8 run in the last six minutes of the quarter for a commendable 44-32 advantage at halftime. Unics tried
their best to make a comeback in the second half after trailing by as many as 24 points but the deficit was too large for them to overcome and the Regal were able to beat them with a huge margin.
Fenerbahce Ulker 90 - SLUC Nancy 86
Six players reached double figures as Fenerbahce Ulker won their first game of the regular season with a 90-86 victory over SLUC Nancy at Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall.
Thabo Sefolosha led Fenerbahce with 19 points and five rebounds while Omer Onan, James Gist and Oguz Savas racked up 13 points each in the victory. Bojan Bogdanovic added 11 points while Kaya Peker ended with 10 points, four rebounds
and three steals for Ulker.
Nancy’s John Linehan set all-time record with 15 assists in a game, breaking previous record of 14 shared by Theo Papaloukas and Tyus Edney. Victor Samnick chipped in a career-high 24 points on 12 for 16 shooting from two-point
range and grabbed four rebounds. Nicolas Batumi had with 22 points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals while Adrien Moerman registered a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Jamal Shuler totalled 13 points on 2 for 2 shooting from
downtown.
Fenerbahce held SLUC to just 34 points in the first half of the game and held an impressive 55-34 lead at intermission. Nancy outplayed Ulker 27-15 in the third quarter and trimmed their deficit to 70-61 after three. SLUC continued
to improve in the fourth quarter and fought back within 84 -79 but Ulker answered with five consecutive points and did not look behind.
