FC Barcelona Regal overpower Unics 63-50: Euroleague Recap
FC Barcelona Regal are the strongest contenders for Euroleague title this year.
They are a complete team- blessed with the best player in the league, Juan Carlos Navarro, and he is not alone.
Yet to be beaten in the tournament, they continued their monumental run by collecting their 8th consecutive win, overpowering Unics 63-50 in the game played at their home court Palau Blaugrana.
Barcelona dominated right from the very beginning until the very end. Unics on the other hand put up a good fight and managed to stay close in the first three quarters, however combination of rock solid defence and aggressive offense
by Regal pushed them completely out of the game in the deciding quarter.
Navarro was yet again the most powerful performer from Barcelona and led the team with 13 points including 5 for 7 from inside the arc. Erazem Lorbek continued from where he left in the last game, and putting up an all round performance,
pounded 11 points and forced 4 rebounds while Pete Mickeal chipped in with his 10.
For Unics, Terrell Lyday scored 12 whereas Lynn Greer accumulated 10. No other player managed to end with scores in double figures.
Navarro constituted 6 points in the opening 10-4 burst bolted by Barcelona to announce their dominance right from the start. Unics countered well with a 6-3 run in the next few minutes to stay close to Barcelona 13-10, however
Navarro, Lorbek and Pete kept on firing in the next few minutes to end the frame with Barcelona ahead 21-15.
Unics put up a good fight in the second frame, however the first quarter deficit never allowed them to get ahead of Barcelona at any instance and by the end of first half of the game, they found themselves trailing behind 5 points
33-28.
A 7-4 surge in the first few minutes of the third frame by Barcelona propelled them into a much dominant position, however Unics got back in the game by replying with a 11-4 run to make it 44-43 with a minute remaining. C.J Wallace
then drilled a three from Barcelona in the dying moments to finish the third quarter with Barcelona leading 47-43.
A 10-0 crucial spurt in the opening minutes of the deciding quarter by Barcelona decided the fate of the game as they got ahead by 14 points. Unics never managed to recover from there on and lost the game with a double digit margin
in the end.
