FC Barcelona Regal remain unbeaten with a 70-66 victory over GS Medical Park – Euroleague Recap
FC Barcelona Regal stayed undefeated in the Turkish Euroleague regular season Group D after overwhelming Galatasaray Medical Park 70-66 on November 17 at the Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall. In doing so, Barcelona became the second team
to record five wins this season while Galatasaray dropped to 2-3 in the standings.
Erazem Lorbek paced the winners with 14 points on 4 for 6 shooting from two-point range. Juan Carlos Navarro racked up 12 points in his quest to become the all-time leading scorer in the Euroleague. The former MVP was 2 for 6 from
three-point range and is now just 14 points shy from his destination.
Pete Mickeal came off the bench with 10 points on 4 for 5 shooting from two-point range and grabbed five rebounds.
Luksa Andric chipped in with a game-high 17 points and grabbed three rebounds in Medical Park’s third loss of this season. No other player reached double figures, however Joshua Shipp ended with nine points and six rebounds in
the loss.
FC Barcelona started the game just as it wanted and held a 9-5 lead in the first five minutes of the opening period. Galatasaray then responded on every run of Barcelona and tied the game at 16. Victor Sada nailed a three-pointer
to put Regal ahead by three with few seconds remaining in the first quarter. However, Ender Arslan connected from downtown to knot the game at 19 after 10 minutes.
Barcelona scored from every angle of the court early in the second quarter– scoring 11 straight points – and pushed their lead to double figures, 30-19. Medical Park slammed the door on that run and registered six unanswered points
to cut the deficit to five, 30-25.
Regal though did not seem bothered at all by those consecutive numbers and stretched their lead back to double digits, 37-27. Furkan Aldemir scored a lay-up to cut their lead to eight but Barcelona posted three points in the closing
minute for a 44-29 lead at halftime. Barcelona widened their lead to 20 points within the first five minutes of the third quarter and maintained their hold for rest of the period, taking a 13-point lead into the fourth.
Medical Park made a remarkable surge in the last quarter and came with 68-66 with about a minute to go. However it was as close as they got all night and Marcelinho Huertas hit a pair of free throws at the end to seal the win for
Barca.
