FC Basel’s Granit Xhaka on Hamburg radar - Bundesliga News
Hamburger SV have recently expressed interest in FC Basel midfielder, Granit Xhaka, in their effort to rebuild the squad for the upcoming season. The attacker is currently under contract until 2015 with the Swiss outfit but an offer in the region of 7 million
Euros could inspire Basel to sell their asset.
Xhaka has been in tremendous form this season and has impressed one and all during the ongoing Champions League campaign. The player has won praise from a host of European clubs and could be a perfect solution to Hamburg's problems.
The former Basel and current Hamburg manager, Thorsten Fink, has spoken highly of the midfielder and wants him to test his skills in Germany. Fink opined that the teenager would be a welcome addition to the Hamburg ranks, who are currently experiencing a
comeback from a disastrous start to the 2011/12 campaign.
Fink also revealed desire of reuniting with his former player and urged the Red Shorts officials to make an official bid for the impressive youngster. He assured the authorities of Xhaka’s immense talent.
Basel officials, on the other hand, are unwilling to sell one of their best players on the cheap.
The FCB sporting director, George Heitz, admitted to Hamburg’s interest in the midfielder but denied receiving any official bid for the teenager.
While addressing 20 Minuten, Heitz further enthused:
"We know that Fink is interested in him but Basel are yet to receive an offer and we have no intention to sell Xhaka."
Xhaka made way into Basel’s senior side in 2010 and so far has made 30 league appearances, bagging two goals during the process.
The player made his Switzerland debut in 2011 and already has a goal to show from six international caps.
Apart from Xhaka, Hamburg are also interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s goalkeeper, Rene Adler, who seems certain to land at Imtech Arena after Bernd Leno’s permanent acquisition by the BayArena officials.
