Ligue 1 side FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Argentine international Fernando Cavenaghi have parted company by mutual consent.
The news was announced on Les Girondins’ official website in a statement that read, “The FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Fernando Cavenaghi have reached an agreement to end their contractual relationship.”
However, the statement also indicated that the club would retain its economic interest in future transactions of Cavenaghi.
The 27-year-old striker joined Bordeaux from Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow in January 2007 for an undisclosed fee. Since then, the Argentine made 83 league appearances for Les Girondins and scored 33 goals.
However, things started to change for the O’Brien-born striker as he was loaned out to La Liga side Mallorca in 2010 and was then loaned out to Brazilian side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Internacional-c39573 in the second half of the 2010/2011 campaign.
However, the striker expressed his desire to leave Stade Chaban Delmas and the Bordeaux direction chose to terminate the player’s contract which means that Cavenaghi has joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/River-Plate-c40368 on a free transfer.
However, if the Argentine club sells the player to any other club, Bordeaux would get some part of the transfer fee.
Cavenaghi initially started his career at River Plate and went on to score 55 goals in just 88 appearances for Los http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Millonarios-c39919.
River Plate are expecting a mass exodus of the club’s star players following the side’s relegation to the second division of Argentine football and Cavenaghi has expressed his desire to help the club return to the topflight.
Cavenaghi was presented by River Plate president http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Passarella. During his presentation, the striker said, “I have no doubt, I want to retire here.”
“El Torito” also expressed his happiness at returning to the club that introduced him to professional football.
The recent news of Cavenaghi’s arrival at the club is a breath of fresh air for a club that was relegated to the second division for the first time in its rich history. Though Cavenaghi’s form might not be like the one that made him such a star in his early
days at the club, the striker can be expected to play in the resurrection of Argentina’s most successful club.
