FC Cologne striker Lukas Podolski asks unrest to come to an end – Bundesliga news
On Saturday, April 30, relegation-threatened Bundesliga outfit, FC Cologne, recorded a massive win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Rhineland derby to move away from the relegation zone. It was an important result for Cologne and the victory was made even sweeter
for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukas-Podolski-c22896’s side as it ruined archrivals Leverkusen’s hopes of winning the Bundesliga title.
Podolski has asked his team to move forward after the historical win. It was the first time since 1997 that Cologne were able to win the derby and understandably, Podolski was over the moon with his team’s efforts. The striker is now hopeful that his side
can shake off the recent problems that have worried the Cologne faithful. While talking to the media, Podolski said that three points against a strong Leverkusen side was due to great team effort. “We were very well organised, though, and worked hard to record
a win,” said the former Bayern Munich man.
The win over Leverkusen was Cologne’s first win after losing three games in a row. Although Cologne did not make any significant changes on Saturday, Podolski believes that the recent unrest at the club might have worked to the club’s advantage. Podolski
was glad to see his side dominate Leverkusen as they forced their opponents to only half chances. While talking about the match, Podolski said, “We didn't allow them any space and they hardly created any chances in the first half. They were more dangerous
after the interval, but I think that we have every reason to be satisfied with the final result.”
Podolski has now stressed the importance of leaving the unrest behind in order to avoid relegation. The German International knows that a lot has changed in the past few weeks. Podolski admitted that too many changes at the club were perhaps not good for
the team but after the recent triumph against the regional rivals, he feels that the team can avoid the drop.
Cologne currently occupy 14th place in the Bundesliga standings with just 38 points from 32 games. With four points now separating Cologne from 16th placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eintracht-Frankfurt-c38994, Podolski and company can be assured of safety should they
manage to win the remaining two games of the season. Lukas Podolski and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Milivoje-Novakovic-c25859 have been in fine form for Cologne this term in spite of the team’s average performaces; Podolski has scored 12 goals this season while Novakovic has 16 goals to his
name.
Cologne play 16th placed Eintracht Frankfurt away from home on the May 7 in a match that will be crucial for both side’s chances of avoiding relegation.
