Dame N’Doye found the net with his header in the 72nd minute of the game but the goal was disallowed because the striker pushed Eric Abidal to win the head. Even though the finish was perfect, the decision of the referee still stood as the match was tied at one goal apiece.
There was a penalty shout the very next minute when David Villa found himself surrounded by Danish defenders and just when he was about to pass the ball back to Andres Iniesta, Mathias Jorgensen brought him down; however, the Danish defender was given benefit of the doubt and the penalty was not awarded.
Pedro Rodriguez replaced David Villa during the 80th minute and Solvi Ottesen replaced Martin Vingaard during the 88th minute of the game. However, Ottensen did not come out without a team player getting booked as Zdenek Pospech was given a yellow card for wasting time.
There was a last minute action during the 90th minute as Pedro Rodriguez found the ball at his feet right inside the 18 yard box. The Spaniard had no option but to shoot on goal and he did exactly what was expected from him. A sensational strike taken by the Spanish youngster found the ball hitting the wood work as the Catalans only shook their heads in horror wondering how he could not find the net.
The match ended with the Danish side managing to hold on to the draw as the Catalan giants still managed to top the group. The Danish champions celebrated as they drew the game but actually the celebration was about the second spot that they managed to maintain in the UEFA Champions League.
There were many shots taken by both the sides and there were many events in the match that were shocking, including the decisions that the referee took. The incidents included the knee that N’Doye took on his face from Victor Valdes and also the kick that the Brazilian defender Daniel Alves gave to Oscar Wendt.
The match was absolutely a thriller as it ended with Barcelona maintaining their 11 undefeated away games streak. Even though the home side was expected to score in the second half, but the Spaniards were very well organized at the back and on the field thus protecting any shots on their goal.
Lionel Messi had a very quiet night even though he found the net. The Argentinean magician looked to be very tired after the goal and he was simply not that “flashing” for his team. However, he did find the corner of the goal during the second half but it was well saved by the goalkeeper of FC Copenhagen.
Even though the match ended in a draw, it was a complete thriller and it was worth a watch. Both the sides tried hard to find the net again and the match was filled with excitement, thrill and drama even though it ended with one goal apiece.
