FC Dallas midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Ferreira-c10483 for improved performance – MLS News
With David Ferreira out of the team after a major injury to his left ankle, Eric Avila was brought into the squad to man the attacking midfield position in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Dallas-c39095 roster. The player has played five Major League Soccer 2011 season matches so far, proving
manager Schellas Hyndman decision as the right one.
The 2010 Most Valuable Player, Ferreira, gave Avila valuable advice for the game and Avila produced a good imitation of the Columbian’s play style. However, simply following the advice might not suffice for the 23-year-old, who might not receive a better
opportunity to impress in the future. Avila has played 255 minutes in the current season as compared to the measly 452 he managed in the entire 2010 season.
The player has started watching Ferreira’s videos to better understand the reigning MVP’s attacking style and was amazed at the way the 5-foot-5 Designated Player marches through the opposition with mazy dribbles. “It was great just watching him and how
he moves the ball and the way he hides and he gets it out of nowhere,” he said. “That’s what I was trying to develop.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ferreira-c13712 got injured in the match against Vancouver Whitecaps a few months earlier and Avila was given a temporary spot in the Columbia International’s absence. The player has started all the games ever since. Avila has taken responsibility with both hands
and stole all the limelight in the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Los-Angeles-Galaxy-c39818. Even though he failed to hit the back of the net himself, he was quick on the field and played a box-to-box game.
“It was a really good game for him against LA because I thought their midfield with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432 weren’t those types of players that are real hard and physical, so it was a good game for Avi to find spaces,” Hyndman said. “I thought he was improving
as the game was went on. The area that he needs to keep working on is those killer passes. We looked at him again a little bit today and we showed him how many opportunities we had on the breakout, which I think is going to be one of our strengths.”
Since Ferreira’s injury, Avila has also been tried in the forward position, as the player he replaced was versatile enough to play that advanced role. However, the player has realised that there is still room for improvement as coming off the bench and starting
a game are two different situations altogether.
