On match-day eleven, October 30, FC Groningen ripped apart Feyenoord Rotterdam’s defence and claimed a 6-0 win at Euroborg Stadion.
The Green-White-Army staged an exciting brand of football in front of their home crowd and deservingly secured all three points by end of the 90 minutes. The hosts started aggressively and took the lead in the opening minute through Dusan Tadic.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maikel-c23167 Kieftenbeld doubled the lead 15 minutes later while Petter Andersson’s screamer in the 18th minute gave the home side a 3-0 lead in the opening period. Virgil van Dijk was the creator of all the three goals.
The Stadiumclub tried to find their way back into the match, but they never really managed to threaten the home side. Ten minutes into the second-half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leandro-Bacuna-c21807 added his name to the score-sheet.
In the closing stages of the match, Van Dijk’s powerful strike found the bottom right corner of the net, while Substitute Suk Hyun-Jun’s goal in the injury time wrapped up a brilliant afternoon for the home side.
In the aftermath of the thrashing defeat, the Rotterdam giants boss, Ronald Koeman, expressed utter disappointment with the result.
Koeman praised the outfit from Groningen’s performance and admitted that his troops staged a far from pleasing show after going down 3-0 in the opening 20 minutes.
“I think Groningen hit eight or nine times on target and scored six times. This is very high efficiency and a great compliment to Groningen. But it is very painful for us. We gave too much room to our opponents and I must say that we played poorly after
going behind 3-0.
“It makes little sense to tell what went wrong after a game. This is the time for the players to look on to their problems”, Koeman said while talking to the media.
Feyenoord conceded their worst defeat of the 2011/12 season. After losing the match, the Rotterdam giants have dropped down two places in the league table and are now sixth on the rankings. Meanwhile, the outfit from Groningen have climbed up to eighth place.
The Stadiumclub will host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RKC-Waalwijk-c40370 at Mandemakers Stadion in their upcoming league encounter on Saturday, November 5.
