The 22-year-old forward has reportedly put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Green-White-Army after impressing many in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/NEC-c40018 Nijmegen.
Reports from Euroborg and Philips Stadion confirm that FC Groningen have successfully managed to acquire Genero Zeefuik’s signature. The young forward had an ongoing contract with PSV Eindhoven that ran until the summer of 2013,
but the club management opted to cash in on the 22-year-old.
The promising youngster started his professional career at Philips Stadion in the 2006/07 season and made his first-team debut for the Boeren at the age of 16 in March 2007.
After winning two consecutive Eredivisie titles with the Eindhoven giants, the Dutch ace was loaned to Omniworld in the summer of 2008 to gain first-team experience. The gifted attacker netted eight times in 35 appearances for
Omniworld before being sent out on loan to FC Dordrecht ahead of the 2009/10 season.
The youngster managed to add his name to the score-sheet on 12 occasions in 37 matches during his one-season loan spell at GN Bouw Stadion.
However, Zeefuik managed to make headlines in the recently concluded season while wearing the jersey of NEC Nijmegen, netting six goals and setting up four more in 26 Eredivisie appearances.
Despite NEC expressing keen interest in acquiring his services on a permanent basis, PSV decided to sell the young striker to FC Groningen.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcel-c23507 Brands, PSV technical director, admitted that his side had to sell the striker, as he would have failed to feature regularly for the Eindhoven giants.
“Género Zeefuik has made good progress during his loan spell with N.E.C. He had one year left on his contract with PSV, but as he faced tough competition from strikers Matavz and Lens and promising youngsters Locadia and Bentancourt,
we have decided to sell him to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Groningen-c39119”, Brands was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
NEC’s technical director, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-Aalbers-c8349, expressed his disappointment after his side failed to secure the services of the young striker.
“We were close to reaching an agreement with Genero on a four-year deal. Even with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281, we almost there and were confident that a deal will materialise. However, last week, I heard that some other club has approached his agent
and offered his client a lucrative deal”, Aalbers said while talking to Voetbal International.
