FC Groningen managing director, Hans Nijland, has revealed that his side was left with no choice except dismissing Pieter Huistra from the head coach position following a terrible 2011/12 season.
The club’s managing director has insisted that they took the decision after thoroughly evaluating entire season’s performance.
“We have thoroughly evaluated the season and could not come to any other conclusion. There was too little confidence and faith left and it was unlikely that Huistra could have reversed the downfall next term”, Nijland was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
Pride of the North’s managing director and technical manager, Henk Veldmate, held intense conversation with the rest of the technical staff and all the players.
Nijland has revealed that Huistra was encountering problems communicating with everyone while admitting that the 45-year-old tactician was disappointed with the club’s decision.
“We talked with all the staff members and the players and it showed that communication was a major problem. In addition, Huistra also had problems with technical staff and it was not doing any good for the club. Nevertheless, he was still looking forward
for the new season and was extremely disappointed with our decision”, the club’s managing director concluded.

However, the manager failed to lead his side to decent results in the following season. Consequently, Pride of the North finished 14th on the Eredivisie table, much to the dismay of the club management, and they opted to dismiss the trainer from
his position at Euroborg Stadion.
Huistra's successor is yet to be announced, but reports in the Dutch media have tipped Fred Rutten or Co Adriaanse as the possible candidates to take over the managerial hot seat at Euroborg Stadion.
