FC Groningen’s Pieter Huistra disappointed despite a win against VVV-Venlo
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Groningen-c39119 manager, Pieter Huistra, was utterly disappointed with his side’s performance on the pitch despite a 3 – 2 win over relegation contenders, VVV-Venlo, at Euroborg Groningen on Sunday, 3rd April. The home side delivered a strong performance
in the opening 45 minutes, but failed to stage a good show in the second half.
Huistra said, “I thought Venlo would dare a little more than what they did, perhaps by sending in another striker, given their position in the table. However, this did not happen. We almost lost the match in the second half and it could have been a draw.
Obviously, I am disappointed.”
On the other hand, VVV striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ruud-Boymans-c31963 was disappointed with his side’s efforts in the first half.
Boymans said, “First half, it was as usual. We were again slow to start and Groningen took the advantage. They deserved the victory. I should have scored in many goal scoring positions but unfortunately today was not our day.”
The match, from the start, was full of excitement. Prolific midfielder, Dusan Tadic, opened the score line to give the home side 1 – 0 lead in the 16th minute. Six minutes later, Pride of the North doubled their lead, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andreas-Granqvist-c5728 sent
a powerful header into the back of the net.
VVV gave themselves some hope of overturning the two-goal deficit when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dario-Vujicevic-c10307 found the target four minutes before the half time. The visitors were lucky in scoring their first goal, as Vujicevic long range shot took a deflection off a Green-White-Army
defender and ended up in the home net, wrong-footing the home side’s gloves man http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Pedersen-c27729 restored the home side’s two-goal advantage in the stoppage time of the first half.
The Good Old were given a hope in the 59th minute of the match when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-Cullen-c31234 netted the second goal for his side. However, it was not enough for the Good Old to bag a point and they remain in relegation zone, five points clear of the bottom
ranked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Willem-II-c40945 Tilburg.
The Green-White-Army are currently placed sixth in the league table, trailing the last UEFA Champions League berth by a mammoth 11 points. With five matches left to play in the season, their chances of playing in Europe’s most prestigious club competition
looks farfetched. The Pride of the North would be looking to finish the season in the top four Dutch teams. However, they have to improve on their performances to achieve that objective.
