FC Groningen were defeated 3-2 in the first-leg of UEFA Europa League play-offs against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heracles-Almelo-c39520 at Polman Stadion on Thursday, May 19. Peter Huistra, Pride of the North manager, was utterly disappointed with his men’s performance on the field. In
spite of the loss in the firs-leg, he believes that his side still has a good chance of a Europe’s secondary club completion berth.
The outfit from Groningen started proceedings at Polman Stadion poorly and conceded two goals inside the first 15 minutes of play. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darl-Douglas-c10351 made it 2-0 in the 15th minute.
However, Huistra’s men pulled one back through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonas-Ivens-c18975 in the 17th minute to make it 2-1.
Huistra said, “We started the game badly. We have clumsily given away the first goal in the first half and had all sorts of trouble. We conceded the second goal like a gift and were lucky to make it 2-1 quickly. In the first half we were very unhappy about
the way we always ran into Heracles behind and lost the ball too quickly.”
The second-half proved no different for the visiting side. The home side controlled the pace of the game and regained their two-goal lead in the 56thminute, when Armenteros scored his second of the evening to make it 3-1. Pride of the North, however,
scored almost immediately to make it 3-2 through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leandro-Bacuna-c21807 in the 57th minute.
Huistra believes that his side played better after the interval, but he admitted that it was difficult to come from behind against the impressive Heraclieden in front of their home crowd.
Huistra said, “The second half we had a little more grip, but they remained a tough opponent for us. After the 3-1, we came back from a good offense and with the final score to 3-2, we feel lucky.”
The tactician would be hoping that his side emerges victorious in the return leg at Euroborg Stadion on Sunday, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/May-22-c39884, and earn their placein the Europa League.
