FC Groningen’s Tim Matavz wants to join a top league – Dutch Eredivisie news
The future of FC Groningen’s Tim Matavz is uncertain and it is uncertain whether the striker would move abroad or prolong his stay at Euroborg Stadion.
The 22-year-old performed remarkably in the Green-White Army’s attacking third throughout the season. The promising young striker scored an impressive 16 goals in 29 appearances and his good performances did not go unnoticed. A host of elite European clubs
have shown keen interest in signing the Slovenian International, but none of the interested clubs have contacted the Groningen management to acquire the player’s services.
SSC Napoli were the only candidate serious in taking his signature in the ongoing summer transfer market. The Pride of the North and the Napoli management also agreed upon the transfer fee, but the deal collapsed following the Slovenian International’s disagreement
on personal terms.
Portuguese Liga outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Lisbon, were the latest side interested in acquiring the forward’s services. Reports suggested that the Portuguese side tabled a bid of 5.5 million Euros, but the bid was rejected by the Green-White Army as the striker only
intends to make a move to a bigger league.
Henk van Ginkel, Matavz’s agent, revealed that his client does not intend to move to Portugal, but to a club that is playing in a more competitive league than the Dutch top tier.
“Matavz himself not wanted to go to Portugal. The competition is no better than the Dutch, so he does not want to go there”, Ginkel was quoted as saying to the media.
The Slovenian International arrived at Euroborg Stadion in the 2007/08 season, but managed to cement his place in the playing eleven in the last couple of seasons. Having scored 31 times in 80 appearances so far for the club, the 22-year-old has an ongoing
contract with Pride of the North that keeps him at Euroborg Stadion until the summer of 2013.
Ginkel further revealed that everyone is interested to join top leagues in their careers and his client seeks the same. However, if nothing concrete arrives, he will keep on representing the Green-White Army.
“He just keeps on playing with Groningen. Everyone is interested joining the top league. If an offer comes in, Matavz will certainly think about it”, Ginkel concluded.
Reports suggest that an offer in the region of 10 million Euros would be enough to lure the young striker away from Euroborg Stadion in the ongoing summer transfer market.
