FC Groningen’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-Hiariej-c35225 signs a three-year contract extension – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports in Dutch media confirm that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Groningen-c39119’s Tom Hiariej has signed an extension to his current contract that was due to expire at the end of the 2011/12 season. The 23-year-old’s new contract will keep him at Euroborg Stadion until the summer of 2015.
The Dutch stopper is a product of the Green-White-Army’s youth academy and started his professional career at Euroborg Stadion in the 2007/08 season. The versatile defender, who can also play in the midfield, has so far made 75 appearances for his side and
managed to add his name to the score-sheet on three occasions.
After signing the new contract with his parent club, the 23-year-old expressed his delight and revealed that he always intended to prolong his stay in Groningen.
“We were already talking to each other, but my intention from the beginning was actually to stay in Groningen. I feel comfortable with FC Groningen and I really like the atmosphere of the club. FC is still under development and is on the rise. I want to
remain a part of that”, Hiariej said while talking to the media.
Pride of the North technical manager, Henk Degree, was also delighted after the Dutch stopper extended his contract for a further three years.
He revealed that the 23-year-old is a versatile player and gives an edge in selection, as he is capable of playing in both defensive and midfield role. The technical manager also revealed that his side was looking to extend the 23-year-old’s contract for
long, as he has remained one of the most consistent players in the playing eleven.
“It always gives things an extra dimension when a young player from your youth side breaks into the first team. He has long been a fixture within the first selection. We had been talking with him to see if we could extend his expiring contract and we are
delighted that Tom has made this choice”, Degree said.
Hiariej would be looking to polish his skills further while playing for Groningen before making his dream move to one of the elite European clubs in the coming seasons.
