FC Koln’s Volker Finke eager to tie Lukas Podolski with new deal- Bundesliga news
FC Koln General Manager Volker Finke has stated that the club is eager to resolve the future of Lukas Podolski in the coming days. He claimed that the negotiations are expected to start during Christmas as it is a perfect time,
before the January transfer window starts. He also hinted that there have been offers for the player in the recent past but the club has declined them.
Lukas Podolski joined the Billy Goats in the summer of 2009 from Bayern Munich for an estimated transfer fee of 10 million Euros, signing a four-year deal. His performances this season have been sensational as he has already found
the net six times in the Bundesliga so far and has been the club’s main threat in this campaign.
Finke expects Podolski to stay with the club admitting that FC Koln wants to keep its key players for the future. He wants the talks to start as early as possible and admitted that December could be the best time to reach a conclusion,
right before the winter transfer window.
“The big goal is that Lukas Podolski stays on with us and we will start those talks with him early. We do not need to get under pressure; therefore Christmas is a perfect date to start talking,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The chief expects a lot of offers coming in for the player at the end of the season which is why he wants the striker to sign a contract extension. He admitted that Podolski is the club’s best player and added that they will definitely
offer something that will make him happy.
“We will have months left then until the summer. I will, however, not make a decision on the concrete date. It is a fact that we need an agreement, an agreement every party is happy with. We have certain financial opportunities.
But we will try to make our best player happy,” he concluded.
