FC Nuremberg goalkeeper Raphael Schafer wants to end career at the club- Bundesliga news
FC Nuremberg goalkeeper has stated that he wants to end his career at the club. The player is close to signing a new contract which will keep him at the Frankenstadion until the year 2014. He insisted that he is willing to help the team in the years to come and hinted of a possible coaching role when he retires.
After widespread speculation that Schafer could be on his way out in this summer’s transfer window, the shot stopper and FC Nuremberg have reached an agreement for a contract extension. The player was heavily linked with a move to Veltins-Arena as Schalke looked for a replacement for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Neuer-c23424, who joined Bayern Munich.
Schafer admitted that he has no plans whatsoever to leave the club and wants to end his career at Nuremberg. He revealed that he will have no problems if a young competitor comes in the near future but he offer his help and support. The German added that he has no qualms on warming the benches and wants the side to do well in the future.
“I will not leave Nuremberg, but will finish my career at the club. If a young competitor comes in at some point and is better, then I have no problem with that, I will still put a year on the bench and support him,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The 32-year old also hinted of a possible coaching role at the club after he retires. He admitted that it could definitely be an option.
“As of today it looks like I'll take over the career, a position in the club,” he continued.
The club Chairman Martin Bader also confirmed the news of the player’s contract extension, claiming that an agreement has been reached which would be in the better interests of both sides.
“We have found a solution that will satisfy both sides for years,” Bader added.
Raphael Schafer has made 228 league appearances for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FC-Nuremberg-c38162 in his nine years at the club.
