FC Nuremberg manager Dieter Hecking has blasted his side after the embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Schalke. He admitted that the team lacked determination and character and that the score line could have been even worse. The tactician
stated that the players will have to step up and improve if the side wants to stay in the Bundesliga for another season.
Die Knappen downed Nuremberg 4-0 at the Veltins-Arena courtesy a brace from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lewis-Holtby-c22175. Die Legende currently sit in 16th place with 12 points from the 13 games played and
have already lost seven times so far this season.
Hecking claimed that his side played some terrible football against Schalke and did not look to score at any point in the match. He criticized the defence for another below average performance and admitted that many players are
not playing up to their full potential at the moment. He insisted that in the end only results matter and nobody would praise the good attacking thinking of the side.
“It was just too naive of us. Where does it get you when you play good, pretty football up to the 18-yard box and then what happens there is not good enough for the Bundesliga. If you want to turn things around, then you need to
be clinical and too many of my players are lacking this at the moment. It may look pretty, but at the end of the day, it is too little,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Nuremberg defender Philipp Wollscheid also expressed his dissatisfaction on the performance and admitted that his team gifted the goals to the opposition and made it far easier for them to get all three points. However, he remained
confident that the displays will get better in the coming weeks and that his team will be able to avoid relegation.
“If you see the way we gifted them the goals today - not even they realised how they had gone in front. It is really bitter the way things are going,” the player added.
Nuremberg face FC Kaiserslautern at home in the next Bundesliga clash.
