FC Nuremberg’s Raphael Schafer hoping for a repeat of last season’s performances- Bundesliga news
FC Nuremberg goalkeeper Raphael Schafer has hoped his side will be able to repeat the performances of last season and be amongst the top sides again. He claimed that he still has three to four years left in him and is confident
that he will end his career at the club.
FC Nuremberg had a fantastic season last term as they finished sixth in the Bundesliga. The club made many heads turn as they had a brilliant year after finishing 16th in the previous campaign. Dieter Hecking’s side
was unfortunate not to qualify for the UEFA Europa League but were amongst one of the surprise performers of the 2010-11 season.
Schafer insisted that the next season will surely be more exciting and stated that the club’s goal should be a top six finish just as they did last season. However, the shot stopper admitted that it will be a hugely difficult task
as all the teams have strengthened.
“In any case it is exciting. No. 6 from the previous season will be repeated, however, very difficult. Then everything went for us,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The veteran stated that he wants to finish his playing career at the club and he still has three to four years left in him as a player.
“I'm staying as a goalkeeper before. And it will remain so until the end of my career. And there are still three or four years,” he continued.
The former Stuttgart player added that he aims to play in Europe with the club and that is one of his major aims. He also admitted that the team is well prepared for the DFB Pokal battle against Arminia Bielefeld.
