http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Villarreal-CF-c40899: Andre Villas-Boas praises his side after the win – Europa League news
FC Porto thrashed Villarreal CF 5-1 in the first-leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-final at the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday, April 28. Andre Villas-Boas, the Dragons manager, was delighted with a convincing win over the La Liga outfit and praised his
troops’ efforts on the pitch.
The 33-year-old tactician dedicated their superb win to all his players and admitted that everyone in the side contributed to their convincing victory. He believes that his players’ efforts and unity is the only explanation of their sounding win over a team
that is known as ‘the little Barcelona’.
The home side were pressed hard at the back by the Yellow Submarines with aggressive intent, in the opening 45 minutes. The result favoured the Spanish side as they left the pitch after the first-half leading 0-1 deservingly. However, the Dragons upturned
things in the break and scored five goals in the second-half to emerge victorious 5-1, with Falcao netting four times in the game and taking his tally to an exceptional 15 goals in the competition.
However, the 33-year-old tactician was quick to praise all of his troops’ efforts in the post match press conference.
Villas-Boas said, “It was a good first step toward the final. Scoring 15 goals in three games is down to the talent of the players. Falcao is fabulous, just like others in the team, but even though he's a fantastic goal-scorer I have to underline the performances
of the entire group.”
Nonetheless, the Dragons’ tactician believes that his side have to remain focused on their campaign if they want to achieve their preset objectives – winning the Europa League.
The opening half of the match belonged to the Yellow Submarines, as they dominated the proceedings at the Estadio do Dragao. The way Villarreal played in the opening 45 minutes of the match, it seemed like that the home side stood no chance to cope against
an impressive La Liga outfit. Moreover, a goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cani-c8305 in the stoppage time of the opening half gave the visitors a well-deserved lead, and left a mountain to climb for the home side in the second half.
However, the Dragons resumed proceedings after the break, looking like an entirely different team. The Yellow Submarines were left stunned and out of the contest, with Falcao scoring four goals and Fredy Guarin scoring one in the second-half.
Guarin said after the match, “The way we turned the tie around after going behind was great. It was down to the efforts of the whole team.”
Porto would be confident to progress through to the Europe’s secondary club competition final, when they meet Villarreal in the return-leg at the El Madrigal on Thursday, May 5.
