FC Porto boss Andre Villas Boas denies Chelsea link
After various rumors linking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pinto-c30032 da Costa spoke out, claiming they intended to retain the 33-year-old manager.
The Blues have had a disappointing season to say the least and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has decided to replace current manager Carlo Ancelotti. The Russian billionaire reportedly has his eyes set on Andre Villas Boas.
The Portuguese is only 33 years old, one of the youngest managers around and is already making headlines with the amazing results his side achieved, including winning the Portuguese Supercup and reaching the UEFA Europa League final.
It comes as no surprise that he has been linked with the Chelsea job and is apparently at the top of their list. He resembles a younger Mourinho and has already been labeled the “new Mourinho” by the media, with his beginnings similar to the Real Madrid
boss.
However, the Portuguese outfit, having lost Mourinho to Chelsea in 2004 are not willing to let Villas Boas go. The club president Pinta da Costa revealed he was certain Villas Boas would be at the club next season.
Da http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458 said while speaking to reporters, “Out of the thousands of times that he has been asked if he would be leaving for another club, he has always responded that he is in his dream position already.”
The Porto president spoke to Villas Boas in the press conference, he said, “We want to see you happy in this job for many years, and we will provide you with the conditions so that this season is the first of many with the success that we all want.”
Villas Boas has been highly successful and has set many records in his first season with the Portuguese giants. He beat Mourinho’s record of being unbeaten in all competitions which was at 33 matches with going on a 36 match unbeaten streak.
The move to Stamford Bridge to replace Carlo Ancelotti must be very tempting indeed, but Villas Boas has claimed he currently wishes to remain at Porto. He denied any links to the English Premier League side, claiming they were rumors.
Villas Boas said while speaking to reporters, “My future is linked to Porto absolutely. I am not aware of any interest from other clubs.”
It seems Villas Boas has learnt from his predecessor’s mistake and does not wish to travel down the same road. He will be aware that if he makes a move to Chelsea, he will be expected to deliver the UEFA Champions League in his first season.
The failure to do so will most likely result in his sacking, like it was with the former Chelsea managers. The same was the case with the likes of Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Luis http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Felipe-c13510 Scolari and now Carlo Ancelotti looks to be on his
way out.
If he remains at Porto, he will have more realistic goals expected of him. In addition to that, the young manager will get time to mature as a manager and get more experience. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 might be a bigger club and the manager post there more high profiled,
but Villas Boas will definitely be better off with the Portuguese outfit.
