FC Porto boss Vitor Pereira wants to move on after 3-1 defeat to Zenit St. Petersburg
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss Vitor Pereira has claimed that he wants to move on after the 3-1 UEFA Champions League defeat against Zenit St Petersburg. The manager was confident that his men will learn from their mistakes in order to improve.
The Portistas travelled to Petrovsky Stadium in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991, where they took on Zenit St. Petersburg in a UEFA Champions League group stage match on September 28, 2011.
Going into the encounter, Vitor Pereira’s men were not in the best of form and after suffering back-to-back draws, it can be said that the pressure to perform was on them. They were boosted with the return of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Álvaro-Pereira-c5297, who were originally
thought to be out for this one.
The match itself was a cracker and proceedings started with a bang, as James Rodriguez netted the first goal of the game in under ten minutes.
Although the visitors were on the back foot for much of the opening 45 minutes, Zenit were unable to get the better of the opponents until http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jorge-Fucile-c19163 got sent off for a second bookable offence.
The Uruguayan received his marching orders right on the stroke of half-time and his absence in the backline eventually left the Dragons exposed, due to which they suffered a 3-1 defeat.
While the game was bossed by Zenit and FC Porto barely made an impression, Vitor Pereira believes that this was just another game and his team will have to make a comeback by learning from their mistakes.
Speaking to reporters, the tactician reiterated that this was just another bad result and they will have to bounce back from it to curb the memories of the woeful tie.
"It was just a game. We are fighting to move on. Regardless of the outcome of the Apoel, everything is open. We must correct this result,” he said.
The trainer also said that he will check-up on all the details of the game and revealed that the red card to Jorge Fucile was one of the main reasons why his team did not display their usual high standards.
"We have to analyze things rationally and pragmatically. While we played eleven against eleven were better balanced and had a tremendously difficult game. The expulsion conditioned us; we also had the injury to Kleber, after which things got even more tremendously
complicated for us,” Vitor Pereira was quoted as saying.
With two draws and a defeat in their last three games, the signs do not bode well for the Dragao. However, they can regain their lost prestige if they can win their away Liga Sagres game against Academica on October 2.
