FC Porto coach Vitor Pereira believes that the club can still continue to win trophies without their star man, Radamel Falcao, and Ruben Michael, who are believed to be on verge of signing for Atletico Madrid.
Porto won an unprecedented quadruple last season, thanks to the goalscoring feats of striker Radamel Falcao, who was firing on all cylinders and also netted the winner in the UEFA Europa League final.
However, the Portuguese champions are now facing the prospect of losing their main forward as Atletico Madrid are reportedly close to landing the former River Plate man and his teammate, Michael, in a player-plus-cash deal.
Many would write off the Portistas without their influential attacker but the manager, Vitor Pereira, believes otherwise.
Speaking to reporters, the tactician claimed that although he did not know what the future held for Falcao and Michael, he, instead of worrying about the loss of his players, was more concerned about winning against Gil Vicente.
"It does not cause me any concern, nor any desire, whether this or that player coming out of the club. I'm just worried about winning against Gil Vicente.
While the market does not close there is always the possibility of someone entering or leaving, we cannot hide. But the truth is that now, both as Falcao Reuben are our players.” The tactician revealed.
Pereira also reiterated that while he was uncertain that whether some of his players would be at the helm come September, he was equally confident that Porto would be able to carry on lifting silverware even if the likes of Falcao parted ways with the club.
“It is these that are here, and it is with this tale. Now, I cannot be sure that they are the ones who are here in late August.
It is something natural, the result of our success last year. But leave those out, who wish to leave and Porto will still continue to be very strong,” the former Santa Clara boss concluded.
While Vitor Pereira is sure that his side can curb the impact of Miguel’s departure, the loss of a 39-goal machine in Radamel Falcao is a tremendous blow and it remains to be seen if the Dragao can manage without the Colombian.
