In their last game against Zenit, Porto played quite well and arguably deserved the three points, after dominating proceedings at Estadio do Dragao. However they were unable to penetrate the stern Russian defence and made their exit from the tournament.

Speaking to reporters, the coach said that the Dragons had put up a superb display against Zenit and had the right character and determination to succeed in their future endeavors.
"Porto today [game with Zenit] clearly proved its quality. Who has a team with this quality and character must be proud and confident in the future,” he said.
The club’s recent form and exit from the UEFA Champions League has raised concerns over quality of the squad and whether they can match their rivals with the current crop of players.
