Andre Villas’ FC Porto defeated CSKA Moscow 2-1 in the second-leg of the knockout phase of the UEFA Europa League at the Estadio Do Dragao in Porto. Hulk and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Freddy-c14144 Guarin scored for the hosts as CSKA crashed out. The Portuguese giants capitalized on their first-leg win in Moscow and progressed to the quarter-final with a 3-1 aggregate.
The hosts started with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Seydou-Doumbia-c33175 in attack.
Porto had a magical start to the match with Brazilian sensation http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436 scoring in the first minute for the home-side. The striker’s free kick was completely misjudged by the CSKA goalkeeper and the ball went in after hitting the left post. The hosts went 2-0 up on aggregate piling more misery on the Russians.
The Army Men were unlucky as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Helton-c16018 was beaten by the Brazilian’s header but was lucky the ball didn’t go in.
The hosts again proved to be brilliant defensively as they have been all season and didn’t allow the visitors any room for attack. The Dragons have only conceded seven goals all season in the Portuguese SuperLiga and scored a staggering 53.
Porto were rewarded for their attacking display in the 24th minute after Freddy Guarin, who scored the winner in the first-leg, scored the second to take the hosts 3-0 up on aggregate. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Igor-Akinfeev-c16676 was again the culprit as he was unable to clear a corner and Guarin was at the right place for a simple tap in.
The Russians found a ray of hope five minutes later when Zoran Tosic scored a brilliant goal from inside the box after receiving a through ball from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-Dzagoev-c4249 making it 2-1.
The second half was dominated by Porto and the Russians played in their own half looking for counter attacks. But the home side’s back four was completely in control. It could have been 3-1 in the end but a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rolando-c31583 goal was disallowed for handball. It was a comfortable win for the Dragons in the end and the Portuguese giants ended 3-1 winners on aggregate.
Porto’s opposition in the quarter-final will be decided on March 18 as the UEFA Europa League draws are held in Nyon.
