Pinta Da Costa, the FC Porto president, revealed the Portuguese giants coach Andres Villas Boas would be free to go if the release clause of €15 million in his contract was paid.
However, Costa also said he was confident Villas Boas would reject any offers made to him in the summer.
Pinta Da Costa said while speaking reporters:
“I do not expect the exit of Villas-Boas - there is a clause price of €15million but I am totally convinced that even if any club came in with the offer, he would reject the proposition.
Villas-Boas is very committed to Porto and more so after this big season.
Two days ago he also told me that if no players leave, then he will not even need any new players.”
So far English Premier League side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have been linked with making a move for the 33-year-old manager after having sacked Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian manager failed to deliver silverware in his second season at the club, because of which he was sacked after the last game of the season.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich completely disregarded the fact that Ancelotti had led the club to their first ever double just a year ago.
In his first season at the London club, Ancelotti led the Blues to a historic win of the English Premier League and the FA Cup.
This season was highly disappointing as Chelsea barely managed a second place finish on the Premier League table to secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
With Ancelotti’s departure confirmed Chelsea are now on the look-out for a new manager.
Apart from the rumors of Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink linked with a return, Andres Villas Boas is a favorite to take over the manager’s post at Stamford Bridge.
Villas Boas is currently the youngest manager in the world to have won a European title, a feat he achieved with Porto as he led them to a Europa League win this season.
He also broke Mourinho’s record of an unbeaten streak as he went 36 games without losing in all competitions.
One of the main reasons why Chelsea are determined to bring him over as manager next term is because he resembles the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid coach.
Jose Mourinho had immense success at Chelsea in first two seasons at the club, leading them to back to back Premier League titles.
He went on to win the FA Cup, Carling Cup and even the Community Shield with the Blues. The one trophy he was unable to secure was the coveted Champions League.
It might be a long shot, but if Villas Boas does indeed come to the London club he will be expected to deliver the European Cup.
