Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eyeing FC Porto defender Rolando after failure to secure the services of Brazilian International Luisao from Portuguese giants, Benfica, earlier in the transfer window.
The Parisians have been on a spending spree ever since their acquisition by the Qatari Investment Authority in the summer.
Backed by the billions of their ultra-rich owners, PSG have purchased some of the best talents in Europe, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082 being the crown jewel in their transfer list. The club have also been in the market for a reliable centre-back and have assessed
several options to bolster the backline.
Benfica’s Luisao was thought to be their highest priority, but even after long and protracted negotiations, the move still did not go through and broke down. The Eagles were demanding top-dollar for their prized asset and said that he would not be leaving
for less than €20 million.
However, the problem was not the money but the 30-year-old himself, who had decided to stay at Estadio da Luz, showing uncommon loyalty to his employers.
With a move for the Selecao International ruled out, PSG have now turned their attention to the FC Porto star.
The defender has been courted by the likes of Juventus and Roma over the course of the summer but a transfer has not materialized due to unknown reasons.
Rolando’s agent, Peppino Tirri has quoted in the past that his client wished to join a bigger club such as Roma but also reiterated that for any chance of a switch, the potential suitors must cough up no less than €15 million to land their man.
"He would be keen to join Roma if his conditions were met. We will soon discover what the future holds: whoever wants him will have to come up with an offer in the region of €15 million.”
Tirri also added that while the former Belenenses man would be keen on a switch to greener pastures, he still remains content at Estadio do Dragao and has penned a new deal at the helm.
"The player has a contract with FC Porto, as it is known, he renewed it because he is fine there, he feels fine." The agent revealed.
While PSG boast enormous financial muscle, courtesy of their Middle Eastern owners, it will take some time before they establish themselves as a top club on the continent, making it difficult for them to sign the likes of Rolando, who are already playing
at the elite level.
