The agent of 25-year-old striker Radamel Falcao revealed that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
The 33-year-old manager resigned as FC Porto manager today and according to reports is currently in London, discussing terms with Chelsea.
The Portuguese manager is set be confirmed by the London club in a few hours or so, if an agreement is reached between the two parties.
Falcao, who flourished under Andres Villas Boas at FC Porto, admitted that he would want to join the Blues to reunite with the manager.
Falcao’s agent said in an interview:
“If Chelsea's new coach is Villas-Boas, then it's normal that the players closest to him could follow him.
But at the moment I have not heard from anyone from Chelsea, although the player would like such a destination.”
“There are many good strikers at Chelsea, and so Falcao would have to fight for his place.”
He did voice his concern over the number of strikers already present at Stamford Bridge, which would mean Falcao would have to fight for his place in the first team if he moved to Chelsea.
Chelsea boast a host of top strikers; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076.
If Falcao is to stand a chance at regular football at Chelsea, he will have to adjust very quickly to English football, something Portuguese players don’t do too well in their first season at an English club.
Apart from Chelsea, London sides Tottenham Hotspur and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 were also interested in signing the player but could not due to his release clause.
A release clause of £26.5million makes Falcao too expensive for most sides, with Chelsea and Manchester City the only two sides who would be willing and able to spend that kind of cash.
He confirmed interest from other English Premier League sides:
“These clubs [Arsenal and Tottenham] are always interested, but they have been blocked by Porto's €30 million [£26.5m] release clause.”
The player’s representative revealed that the forward was focused on the upcoming Copa http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390, despite wanting a move to the English Premier League side, he continued:
“The player is preparing for the Copa America and is tranquil. He knows how things work in football.
After such a great season, he's on everyone's lips.”
Falcao has remarkable statistics with Porto, scoring 73 goals in 85 appearances for the Portuguese giants in all competitions.
He played an important part in helping his side claim the Primeira Liga, Portuguese Cup, Portuguese Supercup and UEFA Europa League last season.
