FC Twente keep their unbeaten record intact in the UEFA Europa League group stage following their 1-0 victory over Fulham FC at De Grolsch Veste on Thursday, December 1.
The Tukkers head coach, Co Adriaanse, expressed his delight with his side’s performance in front of their home crowd.
The Tukkers commenced proceedings at home brightly and controlled the game impressively. Although both sides fail to really threaten in the opening 45 minutes, the hosts held the upper hand in dominating proceedings with Nacer Chadli and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leroy-Fer-c22126 managing
to draw saves from the Whites goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer.
Fulham made a bright start to the second-half and created their first real oppourtunity six minutes after the restart. Kelly’s cross found Andrew Johnson in the box but the forward headed wide of the target.
On the other side, the Tukkers remained fluent with their attacks and Ola John proved to be a constant menace at the left flank. As the match progressed, the Enschede giants once again started to assert their authority with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emir-Bajrami-c12511, Chadli and Luuk
de Jong putting consistent pressure on the Cottagers’ back-line.
However, things got worse for the visitors in the closing stages of the match when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Rosales’ cross from close range. Two minutes later, the Cottagers were dealt with another blow when Johnsson received his marching orders following
a second bookable offence.
When the referee blew the final whistle to end proceedings at De Grolsch Veste, the score-line read 1-0 in favour of the hosts.
The 64-year-old tactician revealed that his troops played impressively against the English Premier League outfit, who played with a defensive frame of mind.
“We played very well against an opponent who played very compact. We had few chances, but controlled most part of the game very well. We dominated and gave away absolutely nothing. The final phase of the match, we attacked fluently and scored. We are now
comfortably sitting first in the Group with a good goal difference. That’s positive”, Adriaanse said while talking to the media.
The Tukkers boss would be hoping that his troops continue to perform highly and at least progress through to the semi-finals of Europe’s second tier competition.
