FC Twente Enschede manager, Michel Preud’homme, has admitted that he is satisfied with his debut season at De Grolsch Veste. In spite of his side missing out on their second Eredivisie title in the club’s history, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 trainer believes the season
was successful as his side managed to lift Johan Cruijff Shield and then the KNVB beker Cup this season.
The Tukkers lost to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AFC-Ajax-c38228 Amsterdam 3-1 on the final day of the season in the title decisive encounter at Amsterdam Arena. The Tukkers needed a point to secure their second title, but the Amsterdammers played aggressively and put immense pressure on the
visiting side. Consequently, Ajax emerged victorious by the end of 90 minutes and lifted their 30th Eredivisie title.
Preud’homme said, “We impressed Ajax in the first 35 minutes, but afterwards we never managed to play our game. It was not easy to comeback in the game afterwards. They played aggressively.”
The 52-year-old tactician believed that some of his players’ performances were below par and that cost his side the game.
“If one or two players do not reach their levels, you can still resolve, but if there are five or six then you have a problem at this stage.” Preud’homme bemoaned.
Nonetheless, the Belgian trainer was satisfied with his side’s performances throughout the season and appreciated their constant efforts to qualify to play in UEFA Champions League next season.
“We have the Johan Cruijff Shield and won the Dutch cup, have made a name in Champions League. We reached Europa League quarter-finals and we have finished second in the league now. All in all it’s still been a brilliant season”, Preud’homme said.
Earlier, the Tukkers president, Joop Munsterman, had also praised the Belgium trainer’s efforts. Moreover, he admitted he was not expecting the Tukkers to compete at the highest level this season after the departure of their former manager, Steve McClaren,
at the start of the season.
The 52-year-old tactician has every right to be pleased with his debut season with the Tukkers as he managed to bag two trophies. The upcoming season is full of promise for the 52-year-old.
