The Tukkers chairman has denied that Fulham have launched a bid to acquire the services of the Brazilian-born Dutch stopper, and insists that his side is in no hurry to sell their prized asset.
Reports in English media for several weeks have been indicating that English Premier League outfit, Fulham, are taking keen interest in signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede’s Douglas before the ongoing summer transfer window slams shut.
In addition, some reports have also been claiming that the Cottagers have tabled a bid to acquire the services of the 24-year-old defender.
However, the Tukkers chairman, Joop Munsterman, has dismissed reports linking the former Joiville stopper with a move away from De Grolsch Veste this summer, while warning the interested clubs that the Brazilian-born Dutch defender
will cost more than seven million Euros.
Newcastle United are said to be among the host of European clubs believed to be interested in luring the talented central defender away from the Eredivisie outfit this summer.
“[It's] absolutely not true [that an offer was received from Fulham]. We didn't receive a bid at all. Media are writing that we want to sell Douglas because he's out of contract in a year, but that's not true”, Munsterman was quoted
as saying to the Dutch media.
The technically gifted defender, who is regarded as one of the best central defenders playing in Dutch top tier, has represented the Enschede giants in well over 100 league matches, providing rock solid defence while adding his
name to the score-sheet on 11 occasions along the way.
His consistent showings at the heart of the defence at De Grolsch Veste for the past couple of seasons have certainly played an integral role in securing European football for the Tukkers.
Munsterman has insisted that his side will not let go of their prized asset this summer for anything less than their asking price.
“We won't agree with these kind of offers. To us it's not about losing a player on a free agent, but what the result is after we've paid agents and such”, the Tukkers chairman concluded.
