The Tukkers are reportedly looking to hold on to their prized asset despite the English Premier League outfit taking keen interest in signing the Dutch International.
Reports in English and Dutch media indicate that Newcastle United are taking keen interest in signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede striker, Luuk de Jong, in the ongoing winter transfer market.
However, the Tukkers management is reportedly set to snub the Magpies’ approach, as the club are keen to hold on to their prized asset for the rest of the season.
Louis Laros, De Jong’s agent, has revealed that the Magpies are taking keen interest in signing the Dutch ace. However, he asserted that the English Premier League outfit has not come to him with anything concrete.
“There has been no contact in the last weeks. I spoke with Newcastle about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956, and his brother Siem, but all I know is that they have been checking on them. It is still soon to talk about a potential transfer”, Laros was quoted as saying to the
Dutch media.
While the 21-year-old has revealed his desire to play in the English Premier League some time in the future, a January move still looks unlikely.
“I’m still very happy playing for Twente, but every player has dreams. Mine is to play in a nice foreign competition one day. And the Premier League is a really nice competition. I don’t have real plans for the future - I’ll see what comes my way”, De Jong
said while talking to the media.
The recently capped Dutchman has thus represented the Tukkers in 56 matches and managed to hit the back of the net on 24 occasions. He has an ongoing contract with the Enschede giants that will keep him at De Grolsch Veste until the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
With the Tukkers clearly indicating their intentions, Newcastle would have to set their sights elsewhere in order to strengthen their front-line.
