Reports in Dutch media suggest that FC Twente Enschede are looking to make a final attempt to sign Feyenoord Rotterdam’s Leroy Fer in the coming days. The 21-year-old is linked with the Tukkers for over a month, but both sides have so failed to reach an
agreement on the transfer fee.
The promising young midfielder started his professional career at De Kuip Stadion in the summer of 2007 after spending more than six years at the Rotterdam giants’ youth academy. The central midfielder has so far played 100 matches and managed to net the
ball 13 times.
In the 2010/11 the Dutch International performed impressively in the centre of the field for the Stadiumclub. His good performances gained him interest from a host of European clubs, but the 21-year-old clearly denied making a move abroad at this point of
his career.
However, the starlet wants to pursue his career away from De Kuip Stadion in the new season with De Grolsch Veste being the most likely destination.
The outfit from Enschede earlier tabled a bid of 2.5 million Euros, but the Rotterdam giants turned down their offer. Reports indicate that the Tukkers would be tabling an improved bid in the coming days to acquire the services of the 21-year-old.
Joop Munsterman, Twente president, also admitted that his side is still in pursuit of the midfielder and revealed his side’s intentions.
“This week we will once again make contact over a deal. We want Fer and would still like the move to go ahead”, Munsterman was quoted as saying to the media.
Martin van Geel, Feyenoord technical director, has clearly indicated that his side will not let go of their starlet for anything under 5 million Euros.
“When the bid is higher than 5 million Euros, which we received for Wijnaldum, only than we will think about selling Fer”, Van Geel said while talking to the journalists.
Fer’s current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2012 and has so far shown reluctance to renew his contract. The Rotterdam giants should consider selling the central midfielder before the ongoing summer transfer window slams shut, rather than letting
him go as a free agent next summer.
