The Brazilian-born Dutch stopper has made it clear that he will not be leaving the Eredivisie outfit halfway through the campaign, but has expressed his desire of moving away from De Grolsch Veste after the end of the ongoing campaign.
FC Twente Enschede centre-back, Douglas, has long been linked with a move away from De Grolsch Veste following his consistent showings for the past couple of seasons.
A host of European clubs including the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, AC Milan, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund have remained interested in acquiring his services, but the 24-year-old denied moving abroad.
However, the highly-rated central defender has now revealed that he is ready to take the next step in his career, though, he has also made it clear that he will not be leaving the Tukkers halfway through the 2012/13 campaign.
“At this stage I'm not talking to anyone. I have another year remaining on my contract, but I think I'm ready to take a step forwards”, Douglas was quoted as saying to the media.
The Brazilian-born Dutch stopper, who has been plying his trade at De Grolsch Veste since joining the club in the summer of 2007 from Joinville, went on to reveal that Newcastle United, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund were keen to acquire his services in the
summer transfer window earlier this year.
“Several clubs have taken an interest. In the last transfer window, there was interest from Newcastle United, Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and a club in Russia”, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600 added.
When asked about his favourite destination for the future, the 24-year-old revealed that he would like to test his skills in the German Bundesliga or English Premier League.
“Given my playing style, a transfer to one of those two countries would suit me best”, Douglas concluded.
The central defender, who has thus far donned the jersey of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 in well over 100 games, has an ongoing contract at De Grolsch Veste that runs until the summer of 2014. Reports indicate that an offer in the region of nine million Euros would be enough
to lure the technically gifted centre-back away from the Enschede giants.
