http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600 believes he is ready for the next step – Dutch Eredivisie news
FC Twente Enschede central defender, Douglas http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Teixeira, has revealed that he is ready to take the next step in his career. The Brazilian-born Dutch stopper has an ongoing contract at the Tukkers that is due to expire by the end of the ongoing season.
The 23-year-old arrived at De Grolsch Veste in the summer of 2007 after making only two appearances for Joinville. The commanding central defender has thus far represented the outfit from Enschede in 108 matches, managing to hit the back of the net on eight
occasions.
Joop Munsterman, the Tukkers chairman, has made it clear that the team management would be offering the 23-year-old an extension to his current contract in the coming weeks. He also revealed that his side would love to hold on to the defender for the next
couple of seasons.
However, the stopper has revealed that it seems unlikely that his side would be offering him an improved contract.
“I have heard nothing about a new contract and I don’t think I would be hearing anything in the coming weeks. For me, I play at my best at FC Twente this season, and then it would be perfect to take the next step in my career. I feel confident, and I think
I am ready”, Douglas said while talking to the Dutch media.
The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best central defenders playing in the Dutch top tier. Douglas has played 10 matches thus far this season and performed impressively in every encounter.
However, his exceptional show at the back in 2-0 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charlison-Benschop-c8846,
who was playing as a lone striker.
The outfit from Enschede would certainly not like to lose the 23-year-old stopper in the next summer transfer window. A contract extension is more than likely to be offered.
The Tukkers have the option to extend the stopper’s contract by a year, but the 23-year-old looks more interested in pursuing his career elsewhere in the next season.
