The Brazilian-born Dutch stopper insists that he wants to continue at De Grolsch Veste while revealing that he has yet to hear anything from the English Premier League side.
Reports in Dutch and English media on July 19 indicated that Newcastle United have tabled a bid to acquire the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600.
However, the Brazilian-born Dutch stopper has dismissed the reports by claiming that he along with his agent knows nothing about the Magpies’ offer.
The 24-year-old arrived at De Grolsch Veste at the start of the 2007/08 season after spending a season at Joinville. The highly-rated central defender has been a regular for the Tukkers since the 2008/09 season, and has put in
many match-winning performances.
His consistent performances at the heart of the Tukkers defence has attracted him interest from a host of European clubs, with Newcastle tipped to be the favourites in landing his signature before the ongoing summer transfer window
slams shut.
Recent reports indicated that the Magpies have even tabled a bid to acquire his services, but the talented Brazilian-born Dutch defender has revealed that he does not know anything about the English Premier League side’s interest.
“I and my agent know nothing of a bid from Newcastle”, Douglas said while talking to journalists.
The centre-back, who has thus far played well over 100 Eredivisie matches while donning the jersey of the Tukkers, went on to insist that he wants to continue pursuing his career at De Grolsch Veste for at least another season.
“I want to stay at Twente this season”, Douglas concluded.
The former Joinville stopper has a contract at FC Twente that is due to expire at the end of the 2012/13 season. Reports indicate that the Tukkers management will be offering the central defender a new contract that will prolong
his stay at De Grolsch Veste for another two seasons, and avoid losing him on a Bosman move next summer.
However, only time will tell whether the tall defender puts pen to a contract extension or move away from the Eredivisie outfit before the start of the 2012/13 season.
