FC Twente Enschede president, Joop Munsterman, is delighted after signing Manchester City’s John Guidetti to their ranks. Reports confirm that the Swedish striker has signed a four-year contract with the Tukkers.
Munsterman is thrilled with the arrival of the 19-year-old striker and believes that the young striker will certainly add more energy in his side’s front-line. Furthermore, the Tukkers acquired his services on free transfer as his contract with the Citizens
expired this season.
“This falls into the category of 'flavour of the week. If you can have such great talent on a free transfer, you should not leave that opportunity.” Munsterman said.
Guidetti, a Swedish with Italian and Brazilian bloodlines, is a technically gifted and physically strong striker. He made his move to the Blues aged 15 from the Swedish club, IF Brommapojkarna. However, he never managed to find his place in the English Premier
League outfit and was loaned out to his former side once, and then to Burnley.
There is no doubt that the 19-year-old striker has the potential to play at highest levels. The Citizens also wanted to negotiate with him on a contract extension, but the young Swedish striker preferred a club where he could play more minutes.
Though the Swedish U-21 International never played in the English Premier League, he made his debut for Manchester City in the Carling cup.
The Tukkers president believes that the young striker has taken the right decision by moving to a club where he has the chance to play more minutes.
“Guidetti did not feel any longer as the sixth striker from Manchester City for his chance to wait and choose the football”, Munsterman concluded.
The Citizens have let the rising Swedish star slip through their fingers. The youngster was also rumoured to be linked with a move to play at Old Trafford with Manchester United, but the 19-year-old striker chose to pursue his career with the Eredivisie
outfit. Furthermore, reports suggest that the Red Devils would be constantly keeping an eye on the Swedish U-21 International and would lure him away from De Grolsch Veste in the next couple of years.
