and Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 21-year-old’s current contract with the Enschede giants runs until the summer of 2014. However, the Dutch striker has insisted that he could very well move away from De Grolsch Veste before the start of the 2012/13 campaign
if anything interesting comes up.
“I am certainly not necessarily gone, but if something interesting comes up, I will either go there or I will be having a think about it”, De Jong was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
The technically gifted striker arrived at De Grolsch Veste half-way through the 2008/09 season after scoring an extraordinary 18 goals in 14 matches during his six-month stay at De Graafschap. The Dutchman has thus far donned the
Tukkers jersey in 76 league matches, and has managed to add his name to the score-sheet on 39 occasions.
The 21-year-old, who has represented the Dutch international in seven matches, has admitted that he has made impressive progress during the last couple of seasons, and has stressed that he can take the next step in his career.
“I feel ready to take the next step in my career, to do well when the opportunity arises, because I have developed well at Twente. Some opportunities should be grabbed when they come”, De Jong concluded.
With the striker making his intentions clear, it seems unlikely that he would be plying his trade at De Grolsch Veste next term.
Reports indicate that FC Twente will let go of their prized asset if an offer in the region of 15 million Euros comes in this summer.
