Nonetheless, the Tukkers management made their intentions clear that the club does not want to sell their prized asset this summer, with Joop Munsterman, Twente president, claiming that interested clubs should make ‘an insane offer’
to lure the striker away from De Grolsch Veste.
De Jong, however, has confirmed that he does not want to done the jersey of Twente in the 2012/13 season, and has insisted that he wants to play under the leadership of Lucien Favre, Monchengladbach head coach.
“I have spoken to Favre several times. We talked about how he wanted me to play. I'm sure the way he wants to play fits perfectly with the fast pace that suit me”, the striker was quoted as saying to Bild.
The Dutchman went on to reveal that he has informed the Twente management about taking the next step in his career with the Bundesliga side as his preferred destination.
“I've told Twente that I only want to go to Gladbach. Borussia are playing in the qualifying round of the Champions League and I want to take the next step in my career. The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in Europe. To make
the next step with the national team I need to go there”, De Jong concluded.
The Dutch international has a contract at De Grolsch Veste that runs until the 2013/14 season concludes.
