The Dutch International’s ankle injury is not as serious as initially thought, and scans have revealed that the 21-year-old is expected to feature in his side’s Eredivisie clash against AZ Alkmaar.
FC Twente Enschede striker, Luuk de Jong, sustained an ankle injury during his side’s 2-1 win over De Graafschap on March 21. The 21-year-old had to be substituted in the 78th minute, as he was seen in severe pain.
Earlier reports indicated that the Dutchman’s 2011/12 season could end due to a broken ankle. However, the latest MRI scan has confirmed that the young striker, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, has only suffered a slight sprain.
A statement on the Tukkers’ official website stated:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956 had a new MRI scan on his ankle on Tuesday. The procedure revealed that the forward's ankle is sprained. De Jong will now follow an individual training programme”.
Twente missed the 21-year-old striker, who has thus far netted an impressive 20 goals in 26 matches while setting up eight more, against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/ADO-Den-Haag-c38221 at Kyocera Stadion on Saturday, March 24, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw with both sides sharing the spoils.
Dropped points moved the Enschede giants to the third spot in the Eredivisie table, four points behind the league leaders, AZ Alkmaar.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 head coach, Steve McClaren, would be hoping that De Jong returns to action at the earliest and help his side mount a title assault in the final weeks of the 2011/12 campaign.
On Eredivisie match-day 28, the Tukkers will lock horns against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roda-JC-c40375 Kerkrade at De Grolsch Veste on Saturday, March 31.
The 21-year-old striker, who has been plying his trade in Enschede since the summer of 2009, will not feature in the upcoming encounter at home. Glynor Plet is yet again expected to start in a central striker role against De Koempels this weekend.
However, reports suggest that the Dutchman will return to full fitness to lead the Tukkers’ attack pack before his side’s clash against the table-toppers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 at AFAS Stadion on April 11.
