The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 manager has insisted that his troops must put in hundred per cent in the upcoming encounter if they are to progress through to the next round.
“I expect another tough night against Schalke just like last week in Enschede. Veltins-Arena is an attractive stadium and with all the home supporters behind Schalke, it will be a tough game for us”, McClaren was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956 scored the only goal in the first-leg from the spot following a controversial decision from the referee.
The Dutch International was awarded a penalty and Joel Matip given a red card despite De Jong having tripped on his own heel.
The Tukkers created a couple of chances in the remaining half-hour of play, but they failed to further extend their lead over the ten-man Schalke and the match ended in a 1-0 win.
McClaren has insisted that his side must score and defend impressively if they have any ambition of sealing a spot in the quarter-finals.
“We must trust in our abilities and score a goal at Veltins-Arena. We will also have to defend well. If we manage to achieve the height of our game throughout the 90 minutes, we will surely progress to the next round. Opening 20 minutes of the match would
be of great importance”, McClaren concluded.
The English trainer would be hoping that his side performs at its best and progress through to the next phase of the European competition.
