The former Ajax manager has expressed his delight following his side’s narrow 1-0 win over PSV Eindhoven, and has admitted that his troops performed brilliantly in the opening 45 minutes of the game.
FC Utrecht head coach, Jan Wouters, was extremely pleased with his side’s 1-0 win against PSV Eindhoven at Galgenwaard Stadion on Sunday, September 16.
The 52-yeaar-old tactician, who took the reins of the Utreg half-way through the 2011/12 season, following Erwin Koeman’s resignation, was all praise for his troops’ performance, and stressed that the young side deserves a huge
compliment.
“We put in an outstanding performance in the opening 45 minutes. We showed character and a good attitude today. This young team deserves a big compliment”, Wouters was quoted as saying to the media in the post-match press-conference.
The Dutch trainer, who started his professional coaching career in the 1998/99 season when he took the reins of Ajax Amsterdam, went on to admit that his side had to work extremely hard in the second-half to bag all three points
at the end of 90 minutes.
“Things got a bit more difficult after the break. PSV could have scored the opener then, but instead Bulthuis netted the 1-0. We could only hope that the ball didn’t fall in their favour after we were reduced to nine men”, Wouters
concluded.
FC Utrecht started the match aggressively, but failed to create any goal-scoring opportunity of note in the first-half, despite enjoying lion’s share of ball possession.
The Utreg came close to breaking the deadlock moments after the hour mark, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Przemyslaw-Tyton-c30175, made a brilliant save to deny Mike van der Hoorn’s header from close range.
Anouar Kali received his marching orders following his second bookable offence on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Strootman-c20775 in the 69th minute. Despite going a man down on the pitch, the hosts broke the deadlock through Dave Bulthuis only two
minutes later.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexander-Gerndt-c4831 was shown a straight red card in the 81st minute to make life further difficult for the hosts. However, the Utreg kept their calm, and still managed to keep their one-goal lead intact until the full time whistle
to bag all three points.
