Reports from Stadion Galgenwaard confirm that FC Utrecht have signed another Swedish star, Marcus Nilsson, from Helsingborg IF. The 23-year-old has signed a contract with the Utreg that runs until the summer of 2015.
The young defender is a product of Di Roe youth academy and started his professional career at Olympia Helsingborg in the 2007/08 season. Since then, Nilsson has made well over 50 appearances for the Swedish outfit while also netting two goals.
Jesper Jansson, Di Roe sporting director, refused to disclose the transfer fee and revealed that this is the right time for the defender to move for a challenge abroad.
“We have been very open the whole time that our players should be given the chance when the right moment occurs. Now that moment has come and Marcus is ready for his next step. I can only say that Utrecht have been very professional during this entire deal
and therefore things have been arranged quickly”, Jansson said while talking to the media.
The 23-year-old had an ongoing contract with his parent club that was due to expire in the summer of 2012. Jansson admitted that their decision was to sell the Swedish International in the winter transfer market next year. However, his side preferred to
let go off their star in the ongoing summer transfer market to garner a better transfer fee.
“Of course that would have been best but considering how little of his contract there would have been left, it was best to sell now. This is the major transfer window and we must adjust to that”, Jansson concluded.
The Utreg are busy in the market to replace the key names that have left the club. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Lisbon, while the latter two
