The 25-year-old’s impressive showings in Eerste Divisie this term garnered him interest from Newcastle United and Southampton, but he preferred joining Jan Wouters’ side.
Reports from Galgenwaard Stadion confirm that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Utrecht-c39237 have managed to acquire the services of Robbin Ruiter from Eerste Divisie side, FC Volendam.
The Utreg were in the market for a gloves man, as they have failed to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Vorm-c25482, who left the Utrecht outfit in the summer of 2011 to join Swansea City.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rob-van-Dijk-c31210, the 43-year-old veteran, replaced Vorm between the sticks earlier this season. However, he failed to perform consistently and conceded plenty of goals.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Junior-c39637 Fernandez took over from the struggling Van Dijk, but the 24-year-old goalkeeper was not better, and the Utreg head coach was forced to instate Erik Cummins between the sticks.
With the Utreg struggling to find a perfect no. 1, a new signing was on the cards. Ruiter, who has thus far made 68 appearances for the Dutch second tier outfit, has been performing impressively at FC Volendam for the past couple of seasons.
His consistent performances also attracted interest from several other Dutch top flight outfits while Newcastle United and Southampton were also reportedly keenly interested in acquiring his services. However, the Dutch shot-stopper preferred joining the
Utreg.
The 25-year-old passed a medical at Galgenwaard Stadion on Tuesday, April 17. Reports indicate that the goalkeeper would be unveiled to the press at the club’s stadium on Wednesday, April 18.
The former Utreg goalkeeper, Harald Wapenaar, has expressed his delight with Ruiter’s decision to ply his trade at Galgenwaard Stadion.
Wappenaar, who is the current goalkeeping coach at the Utreg, has asserted that the 25-year-old has a lot of potential becoming one of the best goalkeepers playing in Europe in the years to come.
Ruiter, who had an ongoing contract at Kras Stadion until the summer of 2014, will join the outfit from Utrecht before the start of the 2012/13 campaign for an undisclosed transfer fee.
If rumours are to be believed, the Utreg have paid FC Volendam in the region of 1 million Euros to acquire the 25-year-old's signature.
