  1. You dont need new clubs just new shafts.  When shafts are ordered, a set will come all same lengths and then they are cut to fit.  If you are 6-4 then you probably need 1-2" over standard length, depending on arm length and swing and other factors.  I dont reccomend the shaft "extensions" just because they are not completely sturdy 100% of the time, I would order a set of new shafts (dynamic golds are really good by true temper) will run you about $10-15 a shaft I believe.  Then you have to pay a little to have them installed unless you have the ability to do this yourself. Hope this helps.

  2. You should get fit for clubs. when you buy a better set of irons, they'll fit you for free most times. I would invest the money if you ever plan on getting better. You could buy a $200 set of irons, but in a year when you get better (or even sooner) you're going to have to re-invest because they just won't be working for you and won't allow you to progress. Shell out the dough for a set of cobra FPs or Calloways and get fit right off the bat. You won't believe how much better you'll play and how much better you'll feel because you're not squatting down all the time.

  3. If your wallet is feeling a little fat, go ahead and buy a new set and GET FIT! I got fit for irons in 2004 (2004 Callaway Big Bertha Irons and Fairway woods, King Cobra 414 comp driver) and it was like a miracle. I dropped 4 strokes my next round. They can fit for any height. (how do you think shaq plays golf) :-P

  4. Have you tried getting butt-extensions put into your clubs. I wouldn't recommend this for the driver or fairway metals, but for the irons. You can get 2x or more shafts (which the long drive guys use) and these can be used for the driver.

    Good Luck

  5. 6' 4" myself and my first set of clubs I bought for $100 from a guy who was 5'6". So I learned how to play with short shafts which was okay until I started playing more often.

Go to the pro shop and get yourself fitted for longer shafts. I bought a new set and had the custom fitting done for free since I bought them there. They added 2" longer shafts than standard ones. It really helps with the club head speed but I had to relearn how to hit since I was always to low in my crouch.

  6. I'm 6'3" and I've trained myself to play with standard clubs, only because I've played since I was 5, however, if I had it all to do over again, I would probably get some above standard clubs.  I think Golfsmith is about the most reputable store that does custom clubs, and for a reasonable price.

However, if name brand is important, all major manufacturers will definitely custom a set of clubs for you, and the cool thing is, they will do a custom fitting and take all the guesswork out of it for you.
