FEMA established early 1979 ... why no complaints until over seen by the Bush Administration?

Now ... Iowa is stating their complaints about FEMA!

With so many complaints, why does FEMA continue to exist? If it were a "business" it would have run itself out of the game by now.

- Go a head, say "incompitence" but that does nothing to addiquately change the problems FEMA has ... which result in MORE Problems for those who endure Disaster in the first place!

What to do about it?

  1. Because it wasn't until now that a state that TOOK MILLIONS over the years for Levy updates.... and redirected those funds to "pet projects" and "perks".....

Because it wasnt' until now that a State & City had a Democrat woman Governor and a Democrat black Mayor... and had them COMPLETELY IGNORE 5 days of WARNINGS....

Because it wasn't until now that the Democratic party to be so OPENLY HOSTILE, and actually get away with it.....

Because it wasn't until NOW that the Democrats had egg on their face from having an IMPEACHED President... and they looked for revenge against the republican party....

FEMA has responded to THOUSANDS of events (check their website)...  but it was only in the DEMOCRATIC state/city did they get criticism because "grown adults" refused to accept responsibility for their POOR CHOICES... EVEN AFTER being caught on TV with an open mic ADMITTING to their failures.

    Don't blame FEMA.

    Don't blame Bush.

Once again... it can ONLY be blamed on the Democrats who PROUDLY put more value on "hurting republicans" than actually HELPING America.

  2. FEMA was fine until it was rolled into the Dept of Homeland Security.  Since then it's been a mess.

  3. Actually, people complain about FEMA for every national disaster, because historically they have not been capable of handling very large scale disasters.  It's only recently that the media started becoming a platform to complain about FEMA.

"With so many complaints, why does FEMA continue to exist? If it were a "business" it would have run itself out of the game by now."

Because it's better than nothing.  You can't really make disaster relief a business, it's a failed model.  In order to be successful, it would require more and more disasters, that's not a good way to run a business.

  4. Well Sparkey, I remember plenty of complaints about them, pretty much since the agency was created.  The big floods in '93 in the Midwest was one time.  It took FEMA quite a while to get there, way longer than what it took them in New Orleans.  Putting it under DHS didn't help much, but of course, as I'm sure you recall (or not, as the case may be), DHS was created at the behest of the Democrats in Congress in 2001 and 2002, so you can't really blame that one on George.

  5. FEMA wasn't created to be a first responder.  Look at the failure of the first response within N.O.  Where is the criticism for that?  FEMA was intended to be supplemental, but now days we expect the Federal Government to cure all our woes.

  6. That's interesting. What emergency disasters have happened since then....Hurricane Andrew was in 94 (Clinton). I wonder how FEMA responded to that. Andrew was pretty devastating....It would be interesting to find out FEMA's reactions and competence in previous emergencies.
