FFA Members?

Question

I am wondering about the rules/regulations on wearing the official FFA jacket. Our previous advisor had told us that wearing the jacket while not in official dress wasn't allowed. But I have seen many other schools wearing them. I was just wondering if the advisor was right or wrong. Are we supposed to wear them without official dress or not?

As many FFA chapters let their members wear their jackets at anytime, the official rules are as follows...

Members can only wear their jackets in official dress.

Some FFA chapter members wear their jackets to contests to represent thier chapters.  In our section, our chapter wore Polos with our name on them.

In the rules it states that the jacket may only be worn while in official dress. Many advisors though do not enforce this and in my opinion it is plain tacky and rude to the organization. I am a current member and take pride as well in the Blue Courdoroy. My chapter also has shirts with the name on it for when we are not in official dress and wish to support our chapter.

I too am a former FFA member.  We also use to wear ours when-ever we wanted to.

But that was (gulp) over 20 years ago.  Rules change, so for us "old time" members we might not know the current rules.

One thing I will state however, if you are wearing a jacket of an organization like FFA, or 4H, you need to behave with appropriate decorum.  No former FFA or 4H member wants to hear that a kid in an FFA jacket was caught spray painting graffiti, or pulling some teenage prank.

It states in the official manual that you are not supposed to wear it unless in official dress..however there are many members who do not abide by the rules and wear their jacket. I am a current member, and actually was going through the manual about a hour ago. I love wearing my jacket and wear it with a great deal of pride, however I also love respecting the organization I am representing, and they don't want me in it unless in official dress.

You are only supposed to wear the jacket when you are in offical dress or field dress. (yes you have to wear the tie)

A lot of schools do not inforce this rule but it is in the FFA rule book.

Previous member. I can't tell you what the official rules are, but I wore my FFA jacket all of the time. It was my favorite jacket.

I would assume though that your adviser knows what that he is talking about. In my school is was not enforced though.
