FFL owners and or gun owners..?

I bought a used ruger p95 this past weekend and got totally screwed on the price. i paid 395 for it used, and they are 300 new. of course i didnt know this until after i bought it, looking to see how good of a deal i got on it, based upon what the man said at the the FFL. What kinda turn over is there on an item such as this? Granted he screwed me on the price, so im guessing ill get screwed on the trade to. I put about 100 rounds through it and had mechanical issues. Ive put 2000 rounds through my S&W 4506 and never had a single problem, and first time out with a ruger ive got problems, no more rugers for me. So what can I get for it? Thanks.

note, as Ruger is switching to a different 9mm/40SW platform (the Ruger SR9) I suspect that Ruger is letting their old stock go at very close to margin costs, so this dealer might not be a crook, he just might have some old stock from a few years ago when they were a bit more expensive

Regardless, if the seller is a FFL, have him send it back to Ruger for you for free repairs.  FFLs can mail guns through the US post office, otherwise it would cost you about $50 to send it UPS or Fed Ex

Don't go bad-mouthing the guy, at least not until you get your gun back from the factory and make sure it works fine, because you can probably talk him into sending it for free or a very small charge.

If you sell a problem gun, either you will get maybe $175 for it, or you will need to hide the truth about the gun, in which case YOU are the ******, so just get it fixed.  You might like it after it starts working right

Ruger makes excellent firearms. The problem with used though is you have no idea how well the previous owner took care of it. Your best bet is to either take it back to the dealer and discuss what you found and the issues you are having and see what they say or send it back to Ruger to see if they can fix it or refurbish it for you. Basically you will probably have to take some sort of hit on it. You will not get your full 395 back for it and just make sure you do the research prior to buying.

I made the same mistake buying a new S&W sigma in .40 cal. It jammed every three rounds and even after a S&W smith "fixed" it, it still gave me issues. I lost 100 bucks on the trade in for a Beretta.

MSRP on that gun is $500, subtract 20% to get the true average price

I have never seen one go for $300 new

You did pay a little much for used but that is not the dealers fault that goes on you

Take the gun back to the dealer to see if he can or will correct the problem if not send it back to Ruger

You might get your $300 if it is in good shape and possibly up to $350 if you list in the right place and are  willing to wait and list

You are not going to get  that at a gunshop

I am not a big Ruger fan but they do have a reputation for standing behind their product

List price is $393-$424 depending if it is stainless or not.  Used 100% Blue Book value is $315-$345 and excellent condition used is    $265-$290.

You may be able to find a new in box for $300 on gunbroker, but that is not the same as a local gunshop.  

If you tried to sell it or even trade it in to another dealer, you would likely not get much more than $200.  Your best bet would be to sell it back to the dealer you bought it from.
